Bridgewater-Raynham High School's Dance Team: Next Step

IMG_0834.jpg

BR's Next Step is a dance team that was formed in Fall of 2019 by a group of young black women. These students were hoping to build the sort of community they'd been seeking at BR, and saw step as a way to express themselves creatively, honor their culture, and build relationships with like-minded people. They were intent on building an inclusive community, and have welcomed individuals of all skin colors, genders, and dancing abilities.

BR's Next Step is largely student-run, with the girls choreographing their own routines independently and leading practice themselves. Last year, they performed at the school pep rally, Cultural Diversity Day, and the Martin Luther King Jr Celebration in Stoughton. They were also featured on the CBS This Morning Eye Opener!

They have community performances planned at this time, given the pandemic, but are hoping to host their first outdoor step competition this spring (restrictions permitting). Next Step is also getting creative about how they can spread some joy around the school and community through video links via their Instagram channel.

DICE is all about lifting up youth in our communities and we're proud to support the Next Step dance team!
